Frequently Asked Questions > What About Germs?
Care facilities, like any other public place, have common germs. Anyone with dangerous germs is quarantined to their room, and you are not allowed to enter.
Practice good hygiene tips to avoid any exposure to common germs. For example during a visit, do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Keep an eye out for any resident with rashes or broken skin. After a visit, wash your hands with soap or use a waterless hand sanitizer. Also, you can wipe down your pet with bacterial wipes. Many volunteers bring a hand sanitizer into the facility and ask residents to use it before and after petting their animal. Speak to your physician if you have specific or additional concerns.
Common human germs are not transferable to animals, so your pet should not get sick. Speak to your veterinarian if you have specific or additional concerns.
